Massage after Murderball.

It may sound like a strange combination but about 10 massage therapy students and an instructor from Medix School’s London campus set up an outreach clinic at the “Crash for Cash” Wheelchair Rugby tournament in on November 7 at Regina Mundy High School.  Wheelchair rugby is often called “Murderball” because of its full contact nature. The students provided massages for the athletes from England, the United States and across Canada. Many members of Canada’s national wheelchair Rugby team took part. Medix massage therapy students have participated in about 16 community outreach events in 2009.

“Our students benefit because they gain hands on experience throughout the community which allows them to treat many different body types, with many different conditions and different responses to treatment,” said Matthew Juszczynski the Massage Therapy Outreach Coordinator at Medix in London.  “It is the perfect way to experience a massage for the first time. All of our clients are fully clothed and given a chair massage using general Swedish massage techniques.”

The Rick Mercer Report covered the event, which aired on November 17 on CBC Television.
