Developmental Service workerRole and ResponsibilitiesThe Developmental Service Worker diploma program is designed for people interested in working with children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities. This program covers a wide variety of topics important in the field including but not limited to: crisis intervention, psychology, behaviour management and communications. Developmental Service Worker program graduates work in variety of positions such as Educational Assistant, Employment Support, Family Support and Integration Facilitator. Diploma ProgramDevelopmental Service Worker program students learn Interpersonal Communication, Health Promotion, Abnormal psychology, Developmental Psychology, Sociology, Team Work, Counselling techniques, Behavioural Management, Pharmacology and Human Sexuality. Students interested in pursuing a career as a Developmental Service Worker should be patient, understanding and have the ability to work under psychologically difficult circumstances. The core values and beliefs behind the role of a graduate Developmental Service Worker include: service, social justice, empowerment, dignity and worth of a person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. Externship (Off-site placement)As a mandatory component of our programs, all Medix students are required to complete an off-site externship placement. Placements occur at various locations throughout the communities surrounding our campuses. This essential module allows students to exercise the skills learned in class, learn specific applications and to further enhance their learning experience in the selected facilities.
