Intra Oral Dental AssistantRole and ResponsibilitiesAs an important part of the oral healthcare team, the dental assistant provides clients in a reassuring manner while maintaining a professional and ethical approach. A dental assistant will assist the dentist during the examination and treatment of clients, provide direct client care, and educate clients on the importance of oral health. In addition, a dental assistant will perform basic laboratory skills and manage client records. Diploma ProgramOur program will provide students with the knowledge and experience in infection control, dental chairside procedures, dental instrumentation, dental materials, oral health education, Health and Safety protocols, and management in client records. Additionally, students are educated on the importance of professionalism and are required to partake in CPR training. Medix School is a H.A.R.P (Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act) Approved educational institution and upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to expose, process, and mount dental radiographs in a dental office. Students will develop the skills, knowledge and clinical experience necessary to perform effortlessly within an assortment of dental settings. Medix School graduates are eligible to write the National Dental Assisting Examining Board examination. To practice as a Dental Assistant Level II in Ontario and to qualify for certification with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association, students must successfully complete and pass the exam. Field PlacementThe field placement component offers students an opportunity to visit University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry or The University of Western Ontario, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry where they will assist and provide client care in a dental school setting. Externship (Off-site placement)As a mandatory component of our program, all Medix School students are required to complete an off-site externship. Externship will occur at a variety of locations throughout the communities closest to the campus chosen. This is an essential component that allows students to put into effect the skills learned in class and to further enhance their learning experience in the selected facilities. Your CareerGraduates will be eligible to find gainful employment in private practice, hospitals, dental supply companies, and public health services.
