Massage Therapy  

Role and Responsibilities  

Registered Massage Therapists(RMT) assess soft tissues and joints of the body to treat and prevent physical dysfunction and pain through manipulation. Massage Therapists work in hospitals, private clinics, rehabilitation centres, spas, resorts, salons, and multidisciplinary environments. They are regulated healthcare practitioners who have the freedom to run their own businesses.  

Diploma Program  

During the diploma program students are educated in Regional Anatomy, Palpation, Massage Theory and Techniques, Orthopaedic Assessments, Anatomy and Physiology, Hydrotherapy, Human Relations, Ethics, Neurophysiology, Pathology, and the physiology of all the human body systems.  

The curriculum relies on two fundamental principles  

  • Teach to foster an understanding of the material versus memorization of material.  
  • Cross curricular integration. Students do not learn material simply as a means to an end. Students will need to apply the information, employing critical thinking to create appropriate assessment and treatment plans to deal with clients and their unique presentations.

  • Clinical Practices  

Externship (In House)  

As a mandatory component of our diploma programs, all Medix students are required to complete a practical component. The massage therapy students are required to work in the Medix School Student Massage Clinic supervised by Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) throughout their program. The students will also have an opportunity to be exposed to different clientele with various conditions through the outreach program. The community outreaches allow Massage Therapy Students to perform treatments at different community events.

Financial assistance may be available for those who qualify. Students are encouraged to visit our Business Affairs department for any questions related to tuition and/or financial aid.
