Personal Support WorkerRole and ResponsibilitiesPersonal support worker provides support to people who need assistance in daily needs because of injury, illness or aging. Students enrolled in this diploma program can work as hospital attendant, nurse aide, personal aide, personal care attendant, home support worker or visiting homemaker. The personal support worker assists the clients with all activities of daily living, reports the medical condition, helps in day-to-day activities such as making bed, cleaning and washing. Diploma ProgramThe objective of the Personal Support Worker (PSW) Program is to provide students with satisfactory skills and competency in a variety of clinical and interactive areas needed for employment in the health care field. This program consolidates and replaces services previously provided by Health Care Aides, Home Support Workers, Attendant Care Providers and Respite Worker Training. Students learn about individuality of the person, role of the worker, assisting the families and household management. Computer skills are also an important part of the diploma program. Externship (Off-site placement)As a mandatory component of our programs, all Medix students are required to complete an off-site externship placement. Placements occur at various locations throughout the communities surrounding our campuses. This essential module allows students to exercise the skills learned in class, learn specific applications and to further enhance their learning experience in the selected facilities. Financial AidFinancial assistance may be available for those who qualify. Students are encouraged to visit our Business Affairs department for any questions related to tuition and/or financial aid.
